Looking for Good Skies

Hello. I'm about as newbie as you can get and I'm having a heck of a time finding good spots to simply gaze up at the stars. I've never realized how fenced off all the open areas are to the world.<br /><br />Anyways, I'm curious if there is a list or something similiar for the best star gazing locations. I found the Clear Sky Clock, but it seems as if every spot listed there is either on private land or in the middle of the city which sorta makes it a moot point.<br /><br />Thanks in advance for any help.

What area of the world (country) are you in?<br /><br />It might help hone our advice. <br /><br />Have you looked for local astronomy clubs? I live in Globe, Arizona. Dark skies aren't to far away, but, like I said earlier, it's finding out how to really GET to them since it seems like most is private land. <br /><br />I didn't want to "join" a club because I figured I wouldn't be able to attend meetings or contribute much, but I never considered simply asking them for help in finding good spots. You don't have to join a club to go observing with them. (well mostly)<br /><br />Since you are in Globe, EVAC observes in Florance Jct. area often.
