I thought it was widely accepted that Mars lost it's atmosphere due to it's lower gravity, and the fact it has no magnetic field, allowing the atmosphere to be stripped off by the solar wind, and allowing much of it to just float off into space????

I have never heard of this "mystery" before. Why is it a mystery that a small planet with no magnetic field should lose it's atmosphere?
