20 february 1986 Launch of the base block of MIR, to celebrate the opening of the Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. This while Salyut 7 was still in orbit. It was the beginning of a long life where MIR thrilled, horryfied and developed into a truly amazing feat of engineering and exploration. It has seen the fall of an empire and the rise of space tourism, it was close to disaster but also the proof of keeping things modular.

The first person to enter MIR was Leonid Kizim on Soyuz 15, while the last person to close the hatch was Alexander Kaleri when he left MIR for Soyuz TM30. The respective dates where March 13 1986 and June 16 2000.

ah well, to end with a smile the following cartoon

"The first person to enter MIR was Leonid Kizim on Soyuz 15"

No.

"Soyuz T-15". The Soyuz 15 spacecraft was launched in a failed mission in the early 70s to dock to Salyut 3/Almaz.
Soyuz T-15 was the last Soyuz T spacecraft, and it used the descent vehicle of Soyuz T-10 A , refurbished.
