I know you've all missed me, but I've been involved in an intensive investigation..no time for chitchat. Anyway, to the point, I have insurmountable proof that indeed, the majority of my missing socks are not transforming themselves into clothes hangars but are, quite boringly, simply trapped by static electricity inside my shirts and pants. However, I have ascertained that 4% are permanently missing, you heard me right. And, quite interestingly, I have 3% more clothes hangars than I originally did. I know what you're thinking...stay tuned..

Oh sure, another crackpot that has discovered the explanation for the missing socks mystery. There is no explanation in this universe, but go ahead, keep bringing up your theories.

Bring me a ufo, buddy

But the Krell forgot one thing John.
Oh sure, another crackpot that has discovered the explanation for the missing socks mystery.

Hey MW, don't be so hard on the guy. I have my own theory: The static electricity builds up to the point where it acts like a flux capacitor (Back to the Future), instantaniously transportating the socks into the future (within the dryer), where you eventually find them someday!

Duke, this could easily be in Free Space. Care for me to move it?

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

The authorities in charge of missing socks deny the plausibility of your theory.

Look for vans bearing federal government license plates to arrive shortly, containing men in suits wearing very stylish sunglasses. Please remain where you are. Offer no resistance, as they mean you no harm. Really.
Just tell the truth and let the chips fall...

Well I must say I'm both pleased and surprised to see some serious research into the feild of sock disappearance. May I enquire as to whether your data shows disparity in the rate of disappearance (for the 4%) between the various sock types and/or colors ? Do black dress socks disappear at a higher, lower or the same rate as white athletic socks ?

-----------------------------------------------------

Ask not what your Forum Software can do do on you,

Ask it to, please for the love of all that's Holy, STOP !

I'm curious as to whether any research is out there regarding the high incidence of black socks that don't match.

Years ago, I resolved to buy only black socks, thinking (wrongly as things turned out) that this would save much time in the early mornings trying to find pairs that match.

But I never cease to be amazed at how I can open my sock drawer and dig out a half-dozen black socks -- yet find no two that match. Instead, I find different textures... and different lengths... I think it's an extraterrestrial plot.
Just tell the truth and let the chips fall...

FreeSpace is there when you are logged in.
Right next to the sock drawer.

When you are not logged in, FreeSpace is not visible.

But the Krell forgot one thing John.
