Could someone please help me identify a sci-fi book?

I read it about the same time I read War of the Worlds, so it might be by the same author.

It's about everyone on the planet suddenly becoming blind (due to looking at a comet) and some plantlike aliens appearing on earth after the event and hunting people. Book had a wierd name: TruffleSunflowers or something like that? I remembered the book after watching WOTW a few weeks ago.

Thanx in advance! Winner gets a cookie!

Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham

Read it a few months back, very good book.

Also look for "When the Kraken wakes" by the same author.
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. We must never, ever be boring" - Chuck Palahniuk.

Just finished re-reading this last night. SA timeless chilling novel, SF at its best.

Jon

Whether we become a multi-planet species with unlimited horizons, or are forever confined to Earth will be decided in the twenty-first century amid the vast plains, rugged canyons and lofty mountains of Mars Arthur Clarke

Thanx Flynn. I'm going to get it for my GF. She liked WOTW and read it last week and I told her there is even a scarrier and more morbid book out there She'll be thrilled!

I remember being very scared by both books. I read them when I was eight.

Umm, you mean "night of the Triffids?" (that was the name, IIRC)

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

They also made a movie back in the 60's that was quite good but I liked the 1980's BBC series. What was left of the military had cool frisbie firing weapons - razer sharp.

Can be purchased online from BBC Shop for £9.99.

Was made up of 6 half hour episodes so should fit on one DVD.

Chebby, your reaction as a child was exactly the same as mine.

Lets see if your reaction as an adult was the same too. Cause I wasn't scared, I was sad.

avaunt,

I'm reading Ringworld now, but I got Triffids as well, so I'll get to it soon. Btw, Ringworld is a great book, thank you for quoting from it and inciting my interest in the other thread

Hahahah thats your next 100 days sorted out. Have you not read Niven before?.

There are some excellent anthological works, called "The Man/Kzin wars". Various wrters take a stab at Man meeting the Kzin.

If you want to read THE book I buy for my friends, read "Maker of universes" by Phillp Jose Farmer.

Promise you will love it.
