NASA event marks 100th anniversary of women's voting rights

The struggle for equality is a long and difficult road that stretches beyond the horizon, and it has been a difficult journey for women and especially women of color. Although White women were granted the right to vote in the passage of the 19 amendment in 1920 did not guarantee the right of all women the right to vote. Women of Color did not get the right to vote till May 26, 1965. So, there are two dates for the rights of women to vote in this country. First, the date of August 27, 1920 and May, 26, 1965 [2020 and2065]. It is great that NASA is finally putting its racist past behind it when it labeled Black female mathematicians as computers and they still had to deal with Jim Crow Segregation. Unfortunately, there was an exclusion of Native, Latina and Asian women from NASA. The philosophy of, "the only good Indian; is a dead Indian, " and , "we don't hire Collie labor." The Yellow Menace. We have come a long way since the time of Sir Jim Crow, but we have a long way to go in our pursuit of equality and a more perfect union. There is one issue that should be brought to light. It was during the 1920s that the KKK was elected into office and the reign of lynching sprung throughout the South. Big Mama Thornton once sang about Strange Fruit that hang from these trees. We celebrate the living, but we also mourn the dead.
