Venus is a very baffling world and deserves investigation BUT why now? NASA seems to bounce from mission to mission. Today it is off to Venus, but before we solve even the most basic riddles of the cloud festooned planet, something else will catch NASA's eye and off they will go. Pick a goal, any goal and go for it. This scattershot approach will achieve little more than a smattering of new information with no ultimate objective other than generalized knowledge. Finding life in the clouds of Venus would be momentous but so would finding fossil evidence of life on Mars or life in the icy waters of Triton. We need an objective and we need to fulfill that objective.
