Asteroid 2024 YR4, once the highest impact risk ever recorded, now poses no threat to Earth but has a slightly increased chance of striking the moon in 2032.

If such a huge impact were to occur, we would undoubtedly have a large array of seismometers on the Moon's surface. This would allow a "one time" detailed view of much of the interior.

With the current situation at NASA, I am not confident we will have any seismometers on the Moon in the near future. We might not even be able to plan for them before 2028, and any there now might be turned off soon.

And, as we have seen with recent landing attempts, getting instrument packages down onto the lunar surface intact does not have a high probability of success. So, launching a large number of seismometers on quickly designed landing vehicles doesn't seem like it is going to provide a good chance for getting great data.

Maybe the Chinese will do it and let us see the data? They might even have first hand videos by their own personnel on the Moon by then.
