Need help finding a old book

Like most people i dont remember the title of the book or author cause if i did, i wouldnt need help finding a book. <br /><br />The story line goes like this... A guy from another planet called either mydrid or somethign like that but its peaceful, leaves planet to join military where he becomes a Colonel in the Imperial Earth fleet. takes a crew on some new torpedo style ships for drills near the moon so the captain can impress a higher officer theres a malfunction and the ship crashs. days later they finally come to rescue him, when he is back to full health he punchs out his captain and is then booted out of the military. <br />so after a few days he joins a crew of a freighter where the captian there is a pain in the ass and is constantly trying to get ride of him because hes ex military. anyways they are looking for this planet that is surposly has a ship from this race they call the master race cause they are eons more intellegent they anybody in that galaxy. well the hero kills the captain. and him and this chick which is on that planet finds the ship and he then uses it to get back at earth.
