As usual, the history behind the discover is not dull.

The Frenchman who was confident in his math, worked at the French observatory, so he should not have gone to an almost unknown German astronomer to follow-up. It seems there were personality conflicts.

Also, the famous Titus-Bode law was falsified with the discovery of Neptune. Even "laws" are at the mercy of science advancements, and thankfully so.
