Northrop Grumman–Boeing CEV team submits proposal
The Northrop Grumman–Boeing Crew Exploration Vehicle team Monday submitted its Phase II proposal to the NASA customer. The proposal encompasses strategies for designing, producing and testing, as well as cost management, safety and mission assurance, and other technical requirements for executing the CEV system.

"Thank you to the Northrop Grumman and Boeing CEV team for your hard work and long hours that made this proposal a solid winner," said Brewster Shaw, Boeing vice president and general manager, Space Exploration.

The team is now focused on the Addendum to the Phase II proposal, which is due April 20. The addendum will address a reduction in the spacecraft’s body design from 18 feet (5.5 meters) in diameter to 16.5 feet (5 meters). An announcement on the Phase II contract award is expected in late summer or early fall.

I like the three engines, and larger aft section.
I think it's a Boeing internal link.

Now that the cat is out of the bag, maybe Shuttle_Guy can shed some light on the Boeing-Northrop CEV design

I’m trying to post “print screens” from the video. But they just keep coming out as blank images. Ill Try again when I get home, if someone hasn’t found other pictures first.
It looks like it has smaller solar panels too. For the record I think its much cooler looking then Lockheed’s design.

You are trying to get me in trouble. How do I know the NG design is out?

Sigh* there's so little trust over the internet these days

This is a still picture so I can upload, but it does not show the engines on the back.

In reply to:

An artist’s rendition depicts the Crew Exploration Vehicle heading away from the moon toward Mars. So beside Yurkin leaks, can you tell us anything about a date for the official unveiling?

Okay, thanks.

That .5m diameter reduction would really tick me off if I were working on this project. I bet that changes ~75% of the dimensioning of the craft... bleech!

Post edited to avoid starting another argument over capsules vs. other designs.

That's because you're becoming a bean-counter and further away from engineering

You're probably older than me and so should know this: budgets are a reality. Deal with it.

Huh? There must have been a lot of empty space then. I'm looking at this from the perspective of someone that models in ProE all day.

"secondary structure" = guts, I assume.

I guess the volumes of the gut components can be roughed out. Or maybe I have it backwards.

The video on the internal website hasn’t been released yet. So I really shouldn’t upload it in any form. Also I have no way of doing so even if I wanted to. The only released picture I found doesn’t show the backside.

"It looks like what NASA told us it should look like"

S_G, In your opinion do you think that was a good decision on the part of Nasa?

Humm, For some reason I thought the Boeing CEV would use solar concentrators like the Boeing 702 Satellite Bus.

Guess I was wrong.
