Nuclear Space Transport?

While I was on my Florida trip in July I remember watching the NASA or Discovery channel and seeing something about the possibility of newer space shuttles or ships (however someone might classify space transport technology) using a nuclear reactor to provide it's own thrust or plasma. Would someone enlighten me on the subject on wether it might be implanted in the future transports or not? I'm just really curious.
