Perseid August 2007 question.

I live in SW Washington State (Longview, 98632) and was wondering if someone could tell me where, within about 30 minutes, would be the best place to observe the meteor shower next month. Would Mt. St. Hellens be good or will that be too close to towns that will light up the sky?<br /><br />Also, is the best viewing time going to be on the night of the 11th with it being close to a new moon.<br /><br />Thanks.

The peak will be near midnight for you on Sunday night/Monday morning the 12th/13th. If you can't make that night the night before or after should be very good as well.<br /><br />Can't speak about Mt St Helens, I haven't been there in over 10 years, so have no idea of how much development has occurred. Just find the darkest spot that is close enough for you to get to. Awesome link, thanks for the info guys, it's should be really enjoyable. Wifes never seen anything like this before, "don't ask me how" so it should blow her mind <img src="/images/icons/laugh.gif" /> <br />If I was still in Idaho, there was a place, past Gowen Field, we used to go camping. It had a Zenithal limiting magnitude of 7.1+ and you could see the Milky Way clearly on any night. Wish I was still there, that's where I'd go.
