Who were/are considered to be the best stick-and-rudder pilots in the Astronaut Office? I've read that some were more highly considered than others for their flying talents (and tech saavy) than others. Just curious; I don't mean to dis anyone. <br />Pete Conrad, Jim McDivitt, and Tom Stafford are three I've heard specific references to. I would imagine John Young would certainly qualify.

From all I have taken in over the years, I would think that Armstrong was probably the best of the best. I'd also add a couple more to that list: the LLRV crash and Gemini 8. Frankly, Gemini 8 makes me just absolutely cringe. His stick-and-rudder skills as well as his extraordinary presence of mind in difficult situations surely put him up in pretty rarified air.
