Emily Lakdawalla reports from the ASS DPS day one<br /><br />Feasibility study using CEV with minimal add-ons to put a man on a near-earth asteroid. <img src="/images/icons/cool.gif" /><br /><br /><font color="orange">It's all kind of pie-in-the-sky right now, but I think it's quite possible that, if we ever get humans out of Earth orbit, that they'll go to an asteroid before they go to Mars.</font>/safety_wrapper> <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <p><font size="2" color="#ff0000"><em><strong>I'm a recovering optimist - things could be better.</strong></em></font> </p> </div>

Three up six months in the CEV? You had better put them in a medical coma first. I doubt sane and above average intelligence people would remain that way in such a confined space for that long of duration.

It would not be just the CEV capsule, the hab module would be attached also. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <font color="#993300"><span class="body"><font size="2" color="#3366ff"><div align="center">. </div><div align="center">Never roll in the mud with a pig. No more premature than discussing a manned Mars mission. <br /><br /><font color="orange">"A man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's Heaven for?" </font>/safety_wrapper> <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> </div>

I hope they make an asteroid mission before going to Mars. The more we lean about NEOs the better. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <p> </p><p><font color="#0000ff"><em>"SCE to AUX" - John Aaron, curiosity pays off</em></font></p> </div>
