Pluto is not a planet because it is deleted from the solar system and now we have 8 planets

It is deleted from being a full planet, not from the solar system. Major difference.
"An organism at war with itself is a doomed organism." - Carl Sagan

sqizee - Actually, Pluto is what is was.

What has changed is scientific consensus on English word usage.

A study of linguistics does show that language usage changes over time for many reasons.

Scientific definitions change with science, as old theories are proven wrong by new data.

The good thing is that once truth is discovered, it is often accepted.

Sadly, in some cases truths are ignored and old theories continue to be popular despite evidence to the contrary.

Note my signature.

Pluto has some characteristics of a planet, btw. However, it also has characteristics shared by other Kuiper belt objects, most smaller but some of similar size, and one - discussed on another thread - larger than Pluto!

One might ask what would constitute a planet if discovered in the Oort cloud?

Newtonian....Who is AV again?

In answer to your question, the current definition might not make a planet possible in the Oort cloud. First of all, proving a solar orbit would be exceedingly difficult, and probably require decades. Equally difficult would be prving it's hydrostatic equilibrium.

Current Definition:
RESOLUTION 5A
The IAU therefore resolves that "planets" and other bodies in our Solar System be defined into three distinct categories in the following way:

(1) A "planet" (1) is a celestial body that (a) is in orbit around the Sun, (b) has sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round) shape, and (c) has cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit.

(2) A "dwarf planet" is a celestial body that (a) is in orbit around the Sun, (b) has sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round) shape (2) , (c) has not cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit, and (d) is not a satellite.

(3) All other objects (3) except satellites orbiting the Sun shall be referred to collectively as "Small Solar-System Bodies".

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) The eight planets are: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
2) An IAU process will be established to assign borderline objects into either dwarf planet and other categories.
3) These currently include most of the Solar System asteroids, most Trans-Neptunian Objects (TNOs), comets, and other small bodies.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IAU Resolution: Pluto

RESOLUTION 6A
The IAU further resolves:

Pluto is a "dwarf planet" by the above definition and is recognized as the prototype of a new category of trans-Neptunian obj

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Its' crazy. I don't know why they just didn't use Pluto as the minimum standard for a planet and go from there...seems like some of these edumacated people just like to throw around their IQ instead of just using common sense...

It's not crazy. In many ways it is more closely related to the dozens of Plutinos discovered so far than it is to the other 8 planets.

But the Krell forgot one thing John.
