I saw that image...such a long way for Pluto Express to go.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. Those who make it happen, those who watch it happen...and those who do not know what happened.

I noticed that yesterday too. Looks like it's just under magnitude 14 where Pluto is just over 14 from Earth, or so Wikipedia tells me. Do we have a list of dates for when Pluto will reach certain magnitudes, and when will the observations from New Horizons start to be useful?

Having asked these questions I think I'll go see if I can find the answers elsewhere just in case.

-----

http://mithridates.blogspot.com

Here's the link to the article here on SpaceDotCom.

It'll be exciting to follow the New Horizons mission as it comes close and closer to this enigmatic planet... or minor planet or dwarf planet or asteroid or whatever. Planet.

----------------------------------

My minds have many opinions

it is notable that this will mark the first time humanity ever sees up close a binary object, ie, pluto/charon. the views from such a world, on pluto's surface near charon, must be bizarre and stunning. and moreso during the day and position relative to the sun when more of the volatile atmosphere is suspended above the surface.

from these first pics, it's very clear to me there is evidence of artificial constructs on Pluto's surface. it's uncanny and amazing.

I hear Hoagland is already investigating, lol.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. don't you see the surface so clearly? new horizons is awesome. once i saw those first pics, i was like "yes, ETI is based on Pluto. it's such a shame they demoted it to dwarf status."

the skeleton of the dinosaur and the ruined city structure is just awesome. way to go JPL.

The Face on Pluto is quite clear. And a city with pyramids. If you draw a straight lins through the vertex of the pyramids, the line bisects the orbital plane of Charon.

The smaller two satellites are obviously artificial constructs.

Now Hoagland cannot claim first discovery of these features.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I really, really, really miss the "first unread post" function.

Richard Hoagland...he is a famous scientssst. Latest findings reveals increasing sign for civilized structures on Pluto surface. The piramides was just one of them. They have been looking into another area near the south pole where they believe there is some sort of gigantic ship stucked on the ethane ice.

it's just very clear from the first Pluto pictures that there is a souvenir kiosk near a large waterfall. but NASA is downplaying this and suppressing information by only revealing a small dot against a star field.

I have considered Hoagland to be a fringe pseudoscientist, not really worth debunking. Sometimes, claims are so silly that they aren't worth bothering. But things have changed recently. Hoagland has been given lots of airtime on the late-night "Coast to Coast AM" radio show, which has millions of listeners. His most recent antics involve the new Mars missions. He is claiming that, among other things, NASA is covering up evidence of alien life on Mars. He says the evidence is in the images returned from Mars by the probes, and the "real" data are being hidden from view.

These claims, like most conspiracy claims, are silly, internally inconsistent, and pretty easy to show wrong. So you might think no one pays any attention to him, right?

If only. He is actually rather notorious in the pseudoscience community......This is from bad astronomy science. We may dicount this gentleman,SEARCH.
I understand that he also beleives that the Saturn moons Mimas & Iapetus are alien spacestations, due to the large crater Herschel on Mimas & Iapetus's lofty equatorial mountain belt, being 'concrete proof' of artificial construction & that NASA is hiding the truth, not to mention the Cydonia features on Mars, etc. This pseudo scientific nonsense is not even worth the time of day.

However, it is great to see this Pluto image from NH. It looks as if NH will be able to deliver new information, immediately past the Jupiter encounter (light curves & new spectra from differnent phase angles).

Lets hope the fuel consumption problem can be fixed soon.

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world.
