The positron, as anti-matter, if often characterized as disintegrating upon contact with regular matter--yet it in fact becomes constituent of the same. <br /><br />So, then, the million dollar question is, what part of the atom does the positron become?

Positrons decay results in conversion into energy, lots of it, or other particles + energy. Yes, the positron doesnt become part of the atom. It decays (is annihilated) into either photons (energy) or other particles, or both.
