The positron, as anti-matter, if often characterized as disintegrating upon contact with regular matter--yet it in fact becomes constituent of the same. <br /><br />So, then, the million dollar question is, what part of the atom does the positron become?

Positrons decay results in conversion into energy, lots of it, or other particles + energy. Exactly which and how much depends on what it's interacting with. <br /><br />Annihilating 1kg of each matter/antimatter would deliver the energy equivalent of 1.6 billion gallons of gas.<br /><br /> <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> </div>

Yes, the positron doesnt become part of the atom. It decays (is annihilated) into either photons (energy) or other particles, or both.
