Randolph Lovelace was a pioneering physician who served as Director of Space Medicine for Manned Space Flight at NASA. He also developed a high-altitude oxygen mask and screened the first astronauts. CR4: The Engineer's Place for News and Discussion has a nice biography of this little-known figure who played such an important role in the U.S. Space Program.
