Uplink Community,

Your help is requested in dealing with the proliferation of postings of dubious technical merit in the following science & technology forums:

* Missions & Launches
* Space Science & Astronomy
* Ask The Astronomer
* SETI - The Search For Life
* Space Business & Technology

We intend to conduct a moderation experiment to address the frustration expressed recently. The Uplink community is comprised of a wide range of ages, personalities, professions, and technical expertise. It is ultimately a science-oriented layman's bulletin board, and as such, postings which could be considered amateur or even nonsense by science/tech savvy users are expected and allowed. Therefore the goal is not to censor such content, but to moderate its volume and frequency, and to evaluate the intellectual honesty and debating behavior of users posting it.

Six users will be selected to evaluate troublesome cases. The selection criteria are similar to those used for moderators, but some level of subject matter expertise is strongly preferred as well. The community is encouraged to nominate candidates, and users may of course volunteer. The selected users will not have moderator powers of any kind, but will have access to a private forum to discuss cases with the moderators. New moderation options may arise from these discussions.

Final selection will take in place in about two weeks.

To volunteer or enter nominations, please go to this thread in Suggestions & Announcements.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"
