Scientists unlock the 'Cosmos' on the Antikythera Mechanism, the world's first computer

The genius of Archimedes (seems likely it was he) makes this project that much more interesting.

It will be interesting to see how this physical geocentric model compares in accuracy to Ptolemy's model. The use of circular orbits with constant speeds are very problematic for long term use, but corrective tables were done periodically for Ptolemy's work. A simple adjustment here and there might be far easier for this computer, giving it superiority to all the math mess in generating new Ptolemy tables.
