For you, which is the more accurate scenario:

You read science fiction novels (not fantasy) and are inspired to look deeper into astronomy and question what is going on scientifically in the universe.

You are a serious science and astronomy fan and you are inspired by real life events to search out science fiction stories to explore and expand your already developed concepts.

You find they are mutually inspiring and your interest in both is spurred on by your reading of science fiction and space reports in parallel.

Also, which sparks your sense of wonder more? SciFi or real life astronomy and space science?

-dh

doublehelix, Community Manager
Imaginova

I'm a little of both. I was initially inspired by the real science of Apollo, particularly Apollo 8. But also sci fi such as "2001: A Space Odyssey". And a mix of events both sci fi and real since. I do my graphic novel thing in part because of this.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. Those who make it happen, those who watch it happen...and those who do not know what happened.

I was very lucky, in a way. My Mom was a Science Fiction fan and avid reader going back to the 1940s; the novels she turned me on to when I was around eight years old were astounding. Leinster, Campbell, Heinlein, DeCamp, Asimov, Herbert, Silverburg...the full monty. Better, I had an Uncle who was a scientific professional immediately following WWII (her older Brother) onwards, who saw in me the "next" Tech-head in the family, so he turned me onto science at a young age.

But it was the incredible SF that truly got me started.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."
