Hi all. I just wanted to let you all know that I just spoke to shuttle_guy Dave and there's bad news and good news.
The bad news is that he's currently in hospital!!!
The good news is that he gets out tomorrow. *phew* He had some more heart troubles, but he's on the mend. He asked me to let you all know that he's okay, 'cause I know some of you have been as worried as me.
He's going to be off work for a little while, so don't expect to see him online...then again, being home with nothing to do but rest, maybe he'll be online even more!!!

Good to hear. Here's hoping for a swift recovery and no more trouble, s_g.

The human heart pumps approximately 200000 cubic metres of blood in a lifetime. That's nearly a hundred full external tanks. So in endurance at least, it significantly outperforms a SSME turbopump.

Oh, I forgot to mention that he said sorry about leaving that last post and not getting back to the board. He figured he'd scared a lot of us...which I guess it did!

Dave, rest up and take it easy mate, we need you here bud!
Missions & Lauches wouldn't be the same without our inside man.

Henry, nice post, I liked how you linked the heart to something spacey

Best wishes, heres to a speedy recovery SG

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Wanna see this site looking like the old SDC uplink?

Go here to see how: SDC Eye saver

Holy heck, I feared this might be the case as we hadn't seen him chirp in with an "I'm okay" the past couple of days.

Hopefully he will try to avoid the SDC as much as possible and put in some serious rest-up time. I'm sure the phrase 'herding chickens' comes to mind for him when he tries to keep on top of all the questions and comments we fire at him!

najaB, any word if he will be back on panel in time for the launch? Completely irrational, I know, but I will feel much better with the RTF effort if I know one of 'our guys' is involved come lift-off.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Well, he said the surgery went well and he should be back at work "in a few weeks" at most, so I guess he should be fit enough to be on console by then. The only thing is, I don't know how long his console certification is valid for - that's why he works TPE console on weekends, to keep the certification.

Get well soon, but I'm glad you were not with me in my Cessna today, I came as close to having an accident today as I ever have. I was on the take-off roll and the right brake siezed, luckily I was still going pretty slow, had I been near rotation speed........a cartwheeling ball of aluminum. I quickly got clear of the active, but it took almost a half hour to taxi back.

I didn't get the shakes until I was driving home. Then I cut the grass, pushing a lawnmower is good theropy, I can put out a sailor's 20 minute rant of nothing but four letter words, and nobody can hear me.

Not to scare you, but I still want to go flying with you some more!

Thank you Najab.

Good to hear Shuttle Guy is recovering. I hope for a quick one.

To Shuttle Guy when you read this thread:

I'm sorry to hear about your heart problems, but glad your recovering. The surgery fixed things up?

Continue to get better. I'm looking forward to seeing you on these boards again.

>So in endurance at least, it significantly outperforms a SSME turbopump.<

And mine went to 104 percent of rated performance when I saw the word surgery in here! Damn, makes you think about getting a good doctor...they're free in the UK but the problem there is you can be lucky to get to see one in a hurry, unless you ship yourself off to hospital under your own volition.....and we all know what we're like "I'll be fine, it's just a wind pain" or something....

....check out the RTF thread on when Dave got the call from his doctor...food for thought.

See, even when he's not talking about Orbiters, he's teaching us something!!

To me at least (and from reading this thread to a lot of other people) shuttle_guy is not only very knowlegible, but also sensible and well balanced. I can not think of a greater loss to these boards than his not contiuing to be here!!

I had a five way bypass myself in 1995, and it has indeed been a wonderful and life extending thing for me. It is both my hope and prayer that whatever operation you have that it does the same for you!!

God Bless You, and come back as soon as you are well enough to do so!!!

I don't think you were around long enough to know this, but Dave already had what his doctor described as a "fatal heart attack" - he saved his own life by driving himself straight to the hospital, where he was taken directly to surgery.
If he had waited for an ambulance, or delayed for even a few minutes he would have died.

Holy cow! Wow! Dave is a very brave, strong man. It is his strength and determination that saved his life. And I am saying prayers thanking God for it.

shuttle_guy, get well soon, but take your time! Milk the short-term disability pay for all its worth. We obviously all miss you and care about you greatly. I know I do! I didn't know that, you're right.

He's going to be able to write one kick ass autobiography!

I'm not particularly religious, so Calli's got that covered, and I'll just thank his car and driving skills

I'm sorry to hear that Shuttle Guy went through such a painful experience, but am glad that he survived! It would have been a sad loss for all if things hadn't allowed him to get to the hospital so quickly.

I just had to sign in and wish you well, Shuttle Guy. Despite the short term disability benifits, I wish you a speedy and restful recovery. We'll be praying for you!

Just to clear up some confusion I may have inadvertantly started. The massive heart attack that Dave had was back in 2003. This most recent episode was minor in comparison. He posted that the problem was detected during a routine health check.

I am so glad to hear you're doing better! And now that I've been straightened out as to what actually happened, I'm very relieved. Thank you so much for posting. It is wonderful to see your username pop up again!

In reply to:

It would be nice to hear more from you so that we know what Call is really like !

I tell him he's welcome to post anytime, but he's not so much of a space geek, and he's also a lot busier at work these days. I get to work in my office all the time, but he's in the lab with no Internet access most of the time. And in the evenings he's addicted to a hilarious RTS game called "Evil Genius". (It's fun to watch it over his shoulder; it really is a funny game. Kind of a send-up of the whole superspy movie genre.)

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"
