Now there's a movie I haven't seen in sometime. I recall watching this in the theater as a kid. It is a good movie!

They were able, though, to get Bruce Dern - who at the time was a big star.

That movie made me an environmentalist. Seeing the pods explode really touched me.

"That movie made me an environmentalist"

I hope you don't mean it in the sense that most self-proclaimed environmentalists mean it. Buncha kooks.

I would'nt mind seeing not a remake but a continuation of this storyline like the 2010 Space Odessey sersis....

I truely think they were on to something with this story line. I even like the colour coded flight suits the crew. It was one of the first Sci Fi flicks to break the sqeeky clean image of a flight crew. This moved Sci Fi movie makers to try and make life abord a space craft look more realistic; like Riddley Scott's Alien I.....
"A mind is a terrible thing to waste..."

In reply to:
"I hope you don't mean it in the sense that most self-proclaimed environmentalists mean it. Buncha kooks."
.
What a pitiful statement. If you believe people who value the flora and fauna on our planet are a "buncha kooks" I am fearful for any living thing that comes within your hateful little grasp.
I'm a wretched hateful nature hater, huh? Good example of kookiness. Thanks!

I get in endless debates with environmentalists who, despite contrary data, insist that the sky is falling, that pollution is getting worse and worse. This is the immutable pardigm of the environmentalist. Without it, the movement falls apart. Speakers lose jobs.

I get in endless debates with environmentalists who percieve any marginal improvement in the environment to be worth any insane price.

I like nature. It's great. I don't want the environment to go bad. But I think its kooky to be willing to pay any price for some miniscule improvement, like we are now. How much are the Superfund sites supposed to cost?

Speaking of Silent Running, I recently read that stock footage from it was used on the original BattleStar Galactica.

I noticed that myself while watching a few episodes. As for the environment I agree that alot of these firms are scamming corporation with the SuperFund. Yet I feel true environmentalist don't sit-in, or protest. Instead they develope greener energy sources; such as solar, geo-thermal, wind, and even the power of the oceans [which in my opinion would make the ocean floor the best place to set up fusion, or fisson reactors of the future]...
"A mind is a terrible thing to waste..."

Universal has released a very good DVD of silent running. DVD contains commentary track by Douglas Trumbull and Bruce Dern and a 'making of' documentary. Highly recommend this movie to all sci-fi enthusiasts.

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!
