Singularity and space-time

According to astrophysicists Prior to the singularity, nothing existed, not space, time, matter, or energy - nothing. So where and in what did the singularity appear if not in space-time? How can a singularity (a very small point (?) with infinite density and infinite temperature) exist outside of space-time?

skip12533 - I agree this part of the popular version of the big bang model does not make sense.<br /><br />Not all astrophysicists (and theoretical physicists, etc.) agree on their being "notbing" before the creation of our universe.<br /><br />I, and those of my faith, certainly disagree.<br /><br />For one reason:<br /><br />The law of conservation of matter and energy.<br /><br />Therefore, combining Genesis 1:1 (God created the heavens and the earth) with Isaiah 40:26 (stars owe their existence to plural forms of God's energy and power) and factoring scientific evidence, this is my conclusion:<br /><br />Our universe was created by intelligently directed energy such that the laws and properties of our universe were fine tuned to allow for the existence of stars and of life.<br /><br />Simply: energy input, some of which was converted into matter.<br /><br />Concerning space-time, this cannot be the only form of time existing because of the following observed scientific principle:<br /><br />Cause and effect, aka causality.<br /><br />Our universe was caused, and our universe specific space-time was created.<br /><br />However, cause and effect cannot proceed without time.<br /><br />Therefore, I have proposed on other threads the existence of 'primordial time' during which our universe's space time was created.<br /><br />A number of astronomers consider the existence of other universes as likely. The Bible also indicates heaven as plural quite often, and contains no word equivalent for “universe” with its singular prefix “uni.” <br /><br />As for a singularity - this is theory. It could be true or it could be that the creation started with a very small diameter, perhaps smaller than Planck length but nevertheless not zero.<br /><br />There is also the theory of collision of branes at the origin of our universe. <br /><br />My own take on this is that different dimensional realms of existence could indeed intersect at a point similar to a singularity in size.<br /><br />To illustrate with ou

Since there was no time before the singularity, you could argue that the singularity has existed forever. Where it came from is a philosophical question for which we have no answers.<br /><br />With in the framework of the laws of physics as we understand them today, we can say only that the universe came into existence when it already had an age of 10^-43 seconds.<br />

Space expands, relative to what? Nothing! Yes, space expands relative to nothing <img src="/images/icons/tongue.gif" />. Our singularity was like an ocean of a size which can't be compared to things that don't have sizes, such as those which are outside space time. Or we could say that it does not have any space or time, because 0 space means no space and 0 time means no time. What about negative space and negative time? Plot those coordinates <img src="/images/icons/laugh.gif" />.
