What will the sky look like if Earth was near the centre of the galaxy. Not near the black hole, but somewhere in the dense middle. Can Starry Night draw such a picture? Will the sky be immensely brighter at night?

I have a feeling there is a thread like this already but I couldn't find it (tried).

-pyoko the duck

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.

Hi pyoko

Try downloading Celestia, it is a free space program, I think you ll find it very impressive, has over 100000 stars you can visit and a few galaxies, it will give you a perspective on any given body of the night sky.

Cheers

Sponge

SPONGE

Assuming there could be an earthlike world orbiting a star near the galactic center. There would probably never be night. Millions of stars blazing in what would be a night sky and if such a planet were no closer than a few light weeks to the nearest of the blazing stars. The light from all those stars would be nearly as bright as daytime on earth.

The daylight side of the hypothetical earthworld would be too brilliant for human eyes. So many stars the glare would appear as one giant sun. Needless to say, such a world would not be suitable for life as we know it.

This is a must do for me. That is, do an image in Lightwave 3D.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. A preliminary and somewhat stylized imaginary view from a world near (Maybe 2,000 Ly) the center of the galaxy. I need to refine it more.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. Ouch! That hurts my sensitive (I hate Light Pollution) Astro eyes.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. LOL, least now I know I must have gotten somewhere near what it must actually be like near Galactic center.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. As you continue to refine it, keep posting the work. I might want to use soemthing like that in a lecture.
Just warn us to put on our sun, err, starglasses first!

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Have you read any of Gregory Benfords' Galactic Center Saga. They are about a Human presense near the Galactic Center. Excellant stories. And you don't need sunglasses to read them.

.

Never roll in the mud with a pig. I'll have to read up on Benfords Galactic center, with ultraviolet radiation shades of course. Thanks.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life.
