SOHO views the center of the Milky Way

<p>Here's the current .gif loop of the C3 camera on SOHO</p><p>http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/data/LATEST/current_c3.gif</p><p>The object moving slower than the stars below and to the right of the sun is Mars, just coming out of solar conjunction, so data from the many craft on and around Mars will resume shortly (Sadly, not Phoenix)</p><p>The fuzzy cloud approaching from the lower left is the central region of the Milky Way in Sagittarius. The Center of the Milky Way (with the black hole) is directly below the sun, just outside the frame. <p><font size="2"><strong>Only in the last 24hrs the Sun as seen from Earth has moved from Ophiuchus into Sagittarius.</strong></font></p><p><font size="2"><strong>The SOHO shot is incredible. <p><font size="4">Sun Tuesday 23rd December 2008 @ 17:18 HRS UTC.</font></p><p><strong><font size="2">The galactic centre is just to the bottom right of the Sun.</font></strong> </p><p><font size="2"><strong>Worth mentioning, if there is a full moon around the June Solstice, it will appear within this area.
