A strange question, but how much might it cost to have my ashes sent into space? And I don't wanna be sent flying towards the outer planets, but instead, send my ashes toward the north or south. Maybe towards polaris or even the orion nebula.

Just a thought.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=cremations+to+space&btnG=Google+Search
You'll see the site I linked below to the right. I put this here because it was the only place I found a price quote.

The link below is the site itself.

http://www.spaceservicesinc.com/MemorialSpaceflights/?&%$#@!=google/

These are just starters but I don't think any of the services actually send cremated remains on an escape trajectory which would be required to head off to the planets or stars which in turn requires more powerful...and pricier rockets.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. Don't know about Pioneer0333 but I can't say I've heard of it.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. Minimum size of a nuke needed to blow something from the surface of earth into space.

Around a 100 megatons . . . .

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

The largest nuclear explosion to date was the Russian Tsar Bomba test in October of 1961, most estimates placed it at 57-62 megatons.

The largest American shot was in March 1954, code named "Castle Bravo" at 15 megatons. And as you mentioned, 100 megatons is the minimum requirement. How much actual payload weight is that?

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. We will soon have ion engines that can tote a ton from low Earth Orbit to far beyond the orbit of Pluto. If we cremate at high enough temperatures we can transport the ashes of 1000 people with a ten kilograms. That is 1% of the one ton payload. 1% of the payload should cost one million dollars including the cost of getting the ion engine and it's fuel to low Earth orbit. $2000 each should allow enough for miscelanious and a bit of profit for the promoters. I was (humorously) assuming the actual cremation and acceleration phase could be efficiently combined from the effects of one (largish) nuke.

Not sure I would use the term 'payload' to describe the glowing fog of atoms shot into space this way . . . . .

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

Somehow I though that might be the case LOL.

I just replied with the actual record partly so others can sort of see that ashes to space are not really going beyond LEO unless there has been some development I'm unaware of.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life.
