The loss of a spatula and the orbiting of many other objects flying around at 17,000+ mph presents a great problem. Was this spatula tethered? What went wrong? Why isn't the news media asking these questions in the dailies?

How did a spatula get up in space? Are the ISS astronauts having a cookout and making hamburgers?<br /><br />Is this part of some long-duration study about what foods to grill on the way to Mars?

Not really. It will reenter in a few months. Its velocity relative to the Station and Shuttle is quite low.<br /><br />"Losted"?

Basically a putty knife. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <p> </p><p><font color="#666699"><em>"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff."</em>  -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"</font></p> </div>

And NASA calls it a spatula? That's as little out of character. I'm surprised they haven't come up with a complicated acronym like TGSLT - TPS glue spreading and leveling tool.
