SPACE ENTREPRENEURSHIP: SPACE X RAMPS UP
Elon Musk and the crew of 4 of SpaceX are making history with today's launch, its third in a year, on their way to the International Space Station.
As Amy Thompson notes in today's space.com, "NASA's first human spaceflight program, Mercury, launched a total of 6 people into space in the early years of the space age. With today's liftoff, [the private sector-sponsored] SpaceX has now put 10 people into orbit in less than 12 months."
Musk is not only pioneering entrepreneurship in the field of space, but he is also challenging entrepreneurs to develop game changing solutions to the climate change issue through his $100-million X Prize to deal with carbon removal:
"Elon Musk, X Prize launch $100 million carbon-removal competition: It's the richest incentive prize in history.”

The history of private sector initiatives in flight and space is inextricably linked to St. Louis.
In 1927, leaders of the then St. Louis Chamber of Commerce underwrote Charles Lindbergh's famous Spirit of St. Louis Trans-Atlantic flight.
In 1996, St. Louis business and civic leaders partnered with entrepreneur Dr. Peter Diamandis to create the very first X Prize, the $10 million, St. Louis-based, Ansari X Prize --- won by the Burt Rutan and Paul Allen Team in 2004.
Attached is a chronicle of these St. Louis links to both the 1996 X Prize and to the original 2027 Ortieg Prize.
