IGN Movies cites studio sources;

Series reboot like Batman Begins.

Filming starts this summer.

Release Christmas 2008.

Director: J. J. Abrams (Alias, Lost etc.)

Casting (offered or in talks):

Capt. James T. Kirk: Matt Damon
Science Officer Spock: Adrien Brody
Dr. Leonard McCoy: Gary Sinise
Engineer Montgomery Scott: James McAvoy
Helmsman Hikaru Sulu: Daniel Dae Kim

Poster....

All but Kim are very experienced actors. He's won a Screen Actors Guild awaed for his role in "Lost" and played Corporal Chang on Enterprise.

Damon has suprised me in numerous action & dramatic roles.

Brody can be intense as hell. In my mind Spock also requires someone with an distinctive facial structure & is tall and lanky. Brody has those being 6' 1" and "unusual" looking in spades.

Sinese is likewise an excellent actor who could do McCoy with intensity.

McAvoy has the advantage of being a real Scot and an excellent actor.

Hmm

I could kind of see Sinise doing McCoy.

(you know I have an autograph of DeForest)

I'm excited and skeptical of this movie all at once.
Kevin OReilly should be played by Steve Buscemi.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

Yeah, Matt Damon isn't nearly gay or dumb enough to play Kirk.

Matt Damon has solid gay credentials. He had sex (more than once) with Eric Cartman on South Park.

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

Yeah, the Ray Liotta resemblence is really amazing. Seems like a Christopher Pike/Star Trek movie would be a no brainer. Correct all the mistakes from Star Trek: Enterprise in a feature length film . . . .

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

That's a promising cast, although I'm unsure about Damon playing Kirk.

Lost was well directed, so Abrams should do fine, although Christopher Nolan would be my favorite for the job. Or, better yet, Tarantino!

***

going backwards is probably better than forwards for more star trek movies; maybe they should get Michael Creighton to make up a star trek movie?

Two castings I can't get rumors on; Uhuru and Rand.

I guess Rand could be any chesty/leggy blonde, but Uhuru is a key member of the cast.

Just as long as it isn't Halle Berry

mattblack said;

And guys, its spelled 'Uhura'.

Yes, but Uhura comes from the Swahili word Uhuru, which means "freedom" plus Uhura is not normally a Kenyan girl's name. She was Kenyan.

He's intense as can be & he can fight very well too.

.

Never roll in the mud with a pig. I think that Damon might play Kirk better than Bill Shatner did.

He was fantastic in the Bourne movies, in my opinion.

Damon is a fine actor and is good with fight scenes. However, not to be overlooked; I don't think he's as good-looking as the young Bill Shatner.

One Percent of Federal Funding For Space: America CAN Afford it!! LEO is a Prison -- It's time for a JAILBREAK!!
