NASA's twin STEREO solar observation satellites are set for launch. Three stage Delta 2 with nine strap-ons. It will be nice to have something up there before SOHO conks out. <br /><br />T-40 minutes and counting. Launch time 8:38 PM Eastern Standard Time USA. Propellant loading and engine steering tests are completed on first and second stage. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> </div>

Good launch, I was about 25 miles away near Sanford, but the night sky was clear as a bell. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> </div>

you folks are so lucky to live near the Cape. I would have to travel 3000 miles to see a launch, if it didn't get scrubbed. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> The secret to peace of mind is a short attention span. </div>

Honestly, It's why I moved down here. My wife thinks it's just coincedental that our house was near the corner of Grissom and Columbia Blvd, about as close as you can live to the Space Center. We just moved a few miles north, but still within great viewing, and the Earth still shakes in our new neighborhood, but not quite as much. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> </div>

Great news. I understand that both STEREO craft are to make lunar swingbys to help position them. Will they take any images during the lunar encounters?<br /><br />It will be fantastic to see the Sun in such detail in 3D.<br /><br />Andrew Brown. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <p><font color="#000080">"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. A somewhat belated update on the STEREO mission:<br /><br />STEREO-A ("Ahead") went into heliocentric orbit after a lunar assist on Dec 22. STEREO-B ("Behind") went into heliocentric orbit this past week after a second lunar assist on Jan 21. Both spacecraft are now in their science orbits and the mission has officially entered its science phase! <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <p> </p><p><font color="#666699"><em>"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff."</em>  -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"</font></p> </div>
