Yes, good news for Arianespace and for the the payload customers concerned. Also very good news for those of us in this part of the world, as a launch failure would have had potentially serious consequences for Arianespace's next mission to loft Optus' D1 bird.

This satellite will be the primary platform for Sky TV's NZ operation, as well as the new "Freeview" FTA services. D1 will replace the existing B1, which is seriously close to the end of its operational life. Optus have switched that bird from geostationary to inclined orbit in order to preserve prop, which is estimated at only another 10 month's worth of supply in this config.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!
