The sun erupted with a surprise solar flare on Saturday (July 3), the largest since 2017, in an early explosion of cosmic fireworks ahead of the Fourth of July.

Sunspot AR2838 is more recent. I have tracked the Sun periodically using my 90-mm refractor telescope with glass, white light solar filter. AR2835 is still very large on the Sun, perhaps 2x or more Earth size.
