Honestly this was such an embarrassing film to watch, I have never ever considered walking out of a movie before, and the only reason I stayed to watch the try hard 'experimental' conclusion was that I was with a friend who was adamant that the movie would take a turn - it didn't.

Even taking the numerous inexcusable physical inconsistencies aside; the plot was weak, the characters were unrealistic - it was actually painful to watch.

SPOILERSPACE (highlight the blank area to see it)

What is this whole freezing in space enigma? It takes hours not seconds. The damage is done by decompression effects on the human body - remember when they did it perfectly in event horizon? It's like taking well established sci-fi movie principles and throwing them away.

Running out of oxygen? Are they ********? They had about 2 cubic kilometers of air just sitting in the payload, let alone the huge rooms full of it in the rest of the ship.

'Have to lose the coms tower when they angle the shield'? Yeah or you could stop it rotating you idiots. This isn't even technically inaccurate, it's just dumb.

Oh god it keeps coming back to me. How is Mercury so close to the sun now? Why do we not have huge streams of particulates blowing off mercury when the solar wind simply disintegrates the steel on the ship?

How did Icarus suddenly come to be in orbit about Mercury? Come to think of it, why would they even do that? They use the term 'slingshot', but you don't enter orbit around a planet to 'slingshot' your ship around it!?

WHY would you increase the oxygen supply to the greenhouse to stop the fire!? You'd turn off the bloody supply and thus have a considerable portion of the vegetation alive. None of this pumping in oxygen to cause a blowout crap. You could even open it to vacuum and have more left over than they did in this ******** film.

"Why are we in o

Doesn't open in the US until September 14th so I guess we'll have to wait, but the idea of the sun being adversely affected by a strangelet isn't out of the question; an object coming into contact with the right kind of strangelet could potentially be converted into strange matter, though physicists disagree how likely this is in practice.

Personally I'd rather not be around to find out

I can not understand what they saw in this film. There is nothing there. It's two hours of special effects and loud noise.

Anyone who goes to see this with an even slightly scientific background will be stunned by its stupidity.

Docm, the problem doesn't lie in the film's premise, I'm happy to accept that the sun is dying and that theres a device created to restart it, but it's the continuous physical inconsistencies, the constant display of unbelievable idiocy by the crew, the lack of thought that has gone into this... it's truly a bowel shatteringly bad film.

I'm a huge fan of sci-fi. I've watched lots of it, and this is the worst one I've ever seen.

Yeah, The Core was hideously bad.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

No worries I agree; there has been very little good sci fi in recent years, though I liked Serenity and Solaris. I even enjoyed Chronicles of Riddick quite a lot, I know many many people hated that film, but it all pales in comparison to Sunshine. It's such a huge disappointment

Well I loved it, the Underworld soundtrack was worth the admission on its own.

Yes there was inaccuracies, but they were minute compared to your average Micheal Bay film and didn't spoil the film for me in the slightest.
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. The Core makes Plan 9 From Outer Space look good.

You'd have thought that they would know by now 'when you have boarded a derelict ship, assume you have picked up an alien, a nutter or something else nasty until proven otherwise.'

Also Icarus 1's captain was a lousy gardener...
