Could very short Gamma Ray bursts be the shock wave created by alien spacecraft exceeding the speed of light? Breaking the sound barrier causes a sonic boom. What would breaking the light barrier produce? A gamma ray boom?

Material objects cannot go faster than the speed of light in a vacuum. In a refractive medium they can go faster than the local speed and when they do they emit Cerenkov radiation. But their speed is still lower than the speed of light in a vacuum.
