Okay Uplinkers, get your ... er ... gear out! This is the place to wow the masses with pictures and recollections of your nerdy assortment of sci-fi toys. We won't take the 'sci-fi' part too literally. Either/or will be fine if you happen to be the proud owner of a Buzz Aldrin action-figure or such like ... anything spacey or techy is fair game for this thread. I hope to see some primo pieces of sci-fi kit, so don't be shy.

I'll go first. Back in the day, when SpaceKiwi was a mere chickling, I got these items over the course of a couple of Christmas'es/ and birthdays. They are part of the Matchbox "Adventure 2000" (when 2000 was still a pretty 'wow' concept for a kid!) series of king-size di-cast toys. I still have one of the K-2001 Raider Command and two of the K-2004 Rocket Striker, complete with all rockets, soldiers and original packaging. I will validate this with pics of mine once I fish them out of a storage box, but will give you the gist with some shots I'm stealing off a website.

My brother and I used to make up all kinds of adventures for the vehicles on distant planets, where there was always a good supply of diesel and gravity was exactly 1G. I hope to live long enough until these toys are actually worth something.

LINK to better, but copyrighted, pictures.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

I was late getting into the fun stuff.

I did stumble across a microscope that I got back in the 4th or 5th grade a while back in my late mothers house.

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

I have an LP around here somewhere that is the soundtrack to Space 1999 - I actually don't have a turntable though...

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

I think the yellow tint was to replicate the gold film on Apollo visors

Whether we become a multi-planet species with unlimited horizons, or are forever confined to Earth will be decided in the twenty-first century amid the vast plains, rugged canyons and lofty mountains of Mars Arthur Clarke

Since we're not taking the sci-fi part too seriously ...

I recall building a model of Seaview's Flying Sub. It was one tough SOB as we repeatedly shot it w/the BB gun w/o much effect. A picture (not of mine) of the Flying Sub follows ...

-----------------------------------------------------

Ask not what your Forum Software can do do on you,

Ask it to, please for the love of all that's Holy, STOP !

Woot! I had one of those models!

A long time after completing it, after it had deteriorated somewhat, I strapped some model rocket engines to it and shot it into a creek. The chute release charges blew it open like a explosive clam. heh heh
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

I had a girder+panel set when I was a kid. I can't remember the name atm. Black plastic girders with clear plastic overlays screenprinted to look as multi-story windows in a skyscraper. I loved those things.
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

There was also a plastic model of the Eagle from a company called MPC. I built several. The Eagles were the best thing from Space 1999. They look like something we would actually build to scoot around the moon's surface.
Bob DeWoody

I had one of the plastic Eagles as well. IIRC they had the ability to detach the cargo pod. Was there some sort of winch as well ?

I remember buying my friends little brother an X wing fighter when Star Wars came out. It made annoying sounds at high volumes and became the weapon of choice to disturb all conversations.

ps - I don't remember ever seeing a Jupiter II toy. That one CE shows is just [geek alert] kewl.

-----------------------------------------------------

Ask not what your Forum Software can do do on you,

Ask it to, please for the love of all that's Holy, STOP !
