Hi.

I am interested to know how to calculate the time taken to receive Neptune image from Voyager?

Can anyone post it?

Well it's not taking images any more, but light time to Neptune on Aug 25, 1989 was about 4 hours, 6 minutes, and 2 seconds (I don't the know how long Voyager 2 processed the images internally). At that time, Neptune was 29.58327 AU away (about 4426 million km, and you can use the speed of light to calculate the time.

Hi Wayne,

Each image was 1,024 x 1,024 pixels, so 1,048,576 pixels.

During the Neptune encounter Voyager 2 still transmitted at a very respectable approx 33 KBS.

Each image took only 33 seconds to transmit. Not bad when you consider how old Voyager 2 already was then & how far away she was.

We'd also need to know the bit-depth then to calculate image size.
