Do you think that finding water on MArs, possible life on there and the fact that we probably could live on Mars.
Why would any other space development be important?

Tow it with what? The ISS is way too fragile for a rocket trip to Mars. Bigelow may come up with something in the future but the ISS is better served in LEO. I'm with you, though. I'm hoping someone gets to Mars in my lifetime.

SLJ

We had a lengthy discussion on using the ISS to get to the Moon and Mars in this thread.

Check it out!

I'm a recovering optimist - things could be better.

If you are going to Mars with people then you need to land on it. Taking equipment to orbit would be wasteful. Maybe in 200 years time but other than that we are better putting roots down.... and on the moon first too.

I agree that finding water and/or life is one of the most important discoveries humanity can make. However, if such a discovery warrants the journey. ISS being towed is really not an option. The money would be better spent on vehicles and infrastructure better suited for mars exploration.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. Those who make it happen, those who watch it happen...and those who do not know what happened.

Not only that as others mentioned but the ISS is actually getting too old. The ISS has what 10-15 years left if they are lucky enough?

Once ISS goes then forget about another one for at least 20+ years. Thats a good Idea too.

This was a drive-by thread. I recommend we ignore it. Let's have this discussion in a real ISS thread.

I'm a recovering optimist - things could be better.
