Does anyone have any info on how close we are to being able to put on a suit and electrodes to your head to be able to have a 3-d virtual reality computer.

Are we close or pretty far away tech wise from something like that?

What are the electrodes for? You mean projecting the image directly into the brain? A loooog way.

But - CAVE's (Cave Automated Virtual Environments) have come a long way. They are dependant upon things like networked computers, LCD shutter glasses, head trackers, etc.

Have a look at http://www.isl.uiuc.edu/syzygy.htm (Syzygy) and Avango at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/avango

.

bipartisan (bī-pär'tĭ-zən, -sən) [Adj.] Maintaining the ability to blame republications when your stimulus plan proves to be a devastating failure.

IMPEACH OBAMA!

There is a company called Lunar Explorer which is already marketing a Virtual Reality simulation of the Moon for home PCs.
They can even support a 3D stereo head mounted display with head position tracking. The only problem is that the head mounted displays are still a bit expensive.
So, for now, you can go to the Moon virtually on your computer screen. When the VR glasses become commercially available, you will be ready to go to the Moon and have an immersive VR experience. It's really quite cool !

Link: http://www.amazon.com/Lunar-Explorer-LEMB-Virtual-Moon/dp/B000KQMDEK/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-3068978-9790452?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1191779847&sr=8-1

Link: http://www.lunarexplorer.com/

The only way to know what is possible is to attempt the impossible.

OT for a moment:
I was given that moniker about 15 years prior to the existance of Disney's Kim Possible. Back when I was more regularly jumping out of perfectly good airplanes.

"Lynn" is my middle name. Hence the play on words becomes apparent. Alas, it was apparent enough that Disney had to jump in there...

.

bipartisan (bī-pär'tĭ-zən, -sən) [Adj.] Maintaining the ability to blame republications when your stimulus plan proves to be a devastating failure.

IMPEACH OBAMA!
