Last night my little girl came and got me about 7:00 pm and said she saw somthing in the sky, i went out side and in the high western sky I could see a single point of light like a star but it was shrouded in haze and looked like it had a tail, looked very simular to a comet but it moved very slowly to the north east and then faded to the point I could not see it anymore. I saw it with the naked eye, I called my father on the other side of town and he confirmed this object, I felt when I got up this morning there would have been some talk about it but I have not heard anything about it, I live in eastern n.c., and was wondering what this was it was clearly in space and not entering the atmoshere. thanks

See this post over in Space Science and Astronomy.
(actually, once you get there, hit the "flat" box at the top and read the whole thread.)

Wayne

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Why do you doubt it, since it makes perfect sense and occurred at the time you saw it?

Have you ever seen rocket fuel before?

What looked different from your revious rocket fuel sightings?

Wayne

But the Krell forgot one thing John. I guess your right, when you get caught up in a moment of seeing somthing strange, I guess you want it to more than just rocket fuel.

It was an alien attack ship with forward area projection attack device unit designed by vogons, and you know it.

Either that or rocket fuel/ swamp gas/ weather balloon/ planet Venus.

-pyoko the duck

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.

Or, it could have been a known launcher dumping fuel as expected.
You never know

But the Krell forgot one thing John. There is currently an article on the front page of http://www.spaceweather.com/ about it.

NOT A COMET: Last night , sky watchers from England to Florida to Canada witnessed a new exploding comet--or so it seemed. "It looked like Comet Holmes!" says Alvaro Garay of Casselberry, Florida. Chris Schierer of Cazenovia, New York, saw the same thing and "wondered how such a bright naked-eye comet could have been missed." He snapped this picture using a Canon 20D:

<SNIPPED PICTURE! />

A pair of objects streaking through the cloud suggested "a satellite explosion or fuel dump." The latter is correct. This cloud mimicking Comet 17P/Holmes is fuel dumped from the upper stage of an Atlas rocket that launched a classified satellite into orbit for the National Reconnaissance Office on Dec. 10th. The event created a splendid display for about 50 minutes and then faded into the night.

EXTRA: See the fuel dump on video captured by Kevin Fetter of Ontario, Canada.

_______________________________________________
SpeedFreek
