Waning moon-normal.....but on its side?

Ok, so, Down in orlando, driving back up from disney world (The tuesday before christmas) I noted that the moon appeared on its side... Other than it's astronomical significance, it's only a day no different than any other.<br /><br />Possibly there was a partial halo effect (ice crystals in the atmosphere), and it appeared to be on it's side? Oddly. that much I knew, and the Equatorial presentation / orientation of the moon near the equator is *implied* but was never stated to me. It's right there in front of me, and I failed to see it.<br /><br />My bad.
