Sorry cyclonebuster.

I do not see anything unusual.

The fish eye view from the HazCam is looking towards Husband Hill & the sky is largely
obscured by the back of the solar arrays.

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. It was extremely large with respect to the overall size of Io and crescent shaped. It seemed unbelievable that something that big had not been visible before". Linda Morabito on discovering that the Jupiter moon Io was volcanically active. Enlarge the picture and then look at the middle object on top of the hill. It looks to have support structure in it.

Camera is underslung beneath solar array. You are seeing the bottom of panel at the top of the picture.

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

That is on the horizon. You can see the wheels the rover clearly. The solar panels are above the wheels not on the horizon! In fact you can see the solar panel shadow next to the wheel on the ground.

Just looked at the picure myself and I too wondered what that was then i realized that indeed it is the panel were seeing. Look at the objects left and right of the center object at the top. They look to be identical and also look like they have a man made structure. Then there is also the black dots on the horizon between each of the objects. I think that is enough to realize that all of it is part of the rover itself.

The entire central band of white is a void - they're just providing an unresolved image to the public before their image people coordinate the top and bottom portions of the pics.

Either that, or this thread belongs in Phenomena

I'm a recovering optimist - things could be better.

What looks like structures out at the horizon are in fact the upside-down reflections of the underside of the panels of the rover.

Read Post #7 in this sciforum thread.

I'm a recovering optimist - things could be better.

Curses! You weren't supposed to see that!

Seriously, it looks like the top of the image is the inside of some sort of hood on the rover over the top of the cameras. What looks like white hills is really the sky. The "structure" is not resting on the white "hill," but is part of the camera hood.

You ADDED more noise to the data and call that an improvement in clarity??

It's an interesting optical illusion. It was only when I "told" my eyes that the pale area is the sky that I could sit the image as it really is. It's natural it seems for the brain to jump to the conclusion that the edge of the hood is the horizon, and the misinterpretation runs from there.

No need to prove it as it seems everyone here but you already knew it was part of the rover.

_______________________________________________
SpeedFreek

I don't believe it is part of the rover and i never will. It has to be the shelter from some sort of E.T.

You wanna talk some jive? I'll talk some jive. I'll talk some jive like you've never heard!
