What Ever Happened to MS Space Simulator?

I bought this simulator when it first came out. I think it was on 6 3.5" floppies. I didn't appreciate it's accuracy so much then and had difficulty trying to dock the space shuttle with the space station that was included with the sim. As a matter of fact I think the failure of one of the floppies when I tried to load it on a later computer I had was the reason I joined SDC looking for a way to replace it.

Anyway with computers having vastly more memory than way back then I am surprised that no one hase tried to re-introduce the sim. It seems it would be a great teaching tool for future space pilots. I did look it up with a google search and found it does still have a substantial following but the link to a download site was closed. I somehow misplaced the flight manual and without it I'm afraid downloading it would be useless.

Anyone know where I could get the software and the manual?

If i remember correctly, users of MS FS didn't like it very much, when MS decided to abandon the sim. I think FSX is the last version, not that hard to get and has very much alive community. You can fly with other people in the same air-space with air control, real weather and so on.
Here's one site i came across:
http://www.flightsim.com/

I would also recommend checking Flight Gear, which is free and open source, has active community and is still in development. It also allows sharing of air-space, real weather, traffic control and so on. There are many plug-ins and other tools to support this program:
http://www.flightgear.org/

Orbiter definitely rocks :) and is not only Shuttle simulator, it's much more.

I still have a version of MS Flight Sim. Space Simulator was totally different and I think the reason it wasn't very popular was the fact that they used real physics instead of the bogus physics like in X-Wing and Tie Fighter.

I tried the link when I posted it, then it worked.
Thanks mic1402 for posting the other link

This is the link to orbitersim:

Freaking awesome simulation. Tons of different add-on simulations that go along with the shuttle and some fictional ships. You can technically visit any Planet in the solar system with the fictional spacecraft. It's still extremely difficult though, even if you read through the over hundred page read-me manual that comes with it.

They have a real cool Apollo add-on where you can do all of the missions from A-Z. If you can land the LEM on the moon you can even get these tiny little astronaughts to jump around on it til their air runs out and you have to get back inside. These japanese guys even made a real Apollo interior view you can switch to that has fully workable controls. They even have the real apollo/ground control transmissions to go along with it. If you want a space sim and are willing to put the time in and understand math, orbitersim is the way to go.

I never got into it personally because of how detailed it is, much too dificult for me. But after a hell of a lot of tries i was able to crash the Apollo CM into the moon minus the LEM which i could never figure out how to dock with. That was my claim to fame(don't worry you don't see a crash or anything the game just ends when you crash Apollo). The other nice thing is you can put your own sound tracks in the game so when you are looking at your spacecraft from the exterior you're listening to music. It's cool to be floating around a planet or the Moon listening to some good classical music.
