I came upon this book advertised on a Japanese web site while following the Hayabusa asteroid sample return mission. It looks like at least one Japanese author is as hard on the Space Shuttle as anyone can be. This however doesn't stop me from wishing JAXA all the best with their current and future missions.

The setting sun of the space shuttle - truth of 24 years which are lost

Publisher/contents introduction from author
"1970 - eighties, the space shuttle which gives dream of space travelling to everyone.
