I mean CEV is such a naff name. So lets keep in synch with Greek mythology and I'll propose naming the lunar exploration program - Aristaeus (son of Cyrene and Apollo).

DO NO HARM/safety_wrapper>

After Apollo's son: Aesculapius.

That should make commentator's lives interesting.
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find and not to yeild. - Tennyson

YES!!! YES!!!

CEV, CLV are boooring..... Apollo, now that was a name for a rocket! NASA had already lost their imagination when they named the Space Shuttle. How about Jupitar or Zeus?

hehe - As opposed to the "lockmarty subsidiser 3000" or the "Boeing make work 5000"?

DO NO HARM/safety_wrapper>

Boeing-make work!! Yeah, true. "Let's strap 7x Delta IV cores together and lift LESS than a SDHLV. Oh, and build some new fancy-schmancy launchpads while we're at it".

One Percent of Federal Funding For Space: America CAN Afford it!! LEO is a Prison -- It's time for a JAILBREAK!!

Hahaha...those would be good names for the individual components from those companies, but I still like "Crapollo" for the program overall!

So too was Aristaeus but to a different mother (Cyrene).

I just think the pronunciation would be easier.

DO NO HARM/safety_wrapper>

Project Constellation - isn't that already used as an umbrella name for the entire effort - LEO, Lunar, Mars.

DO NO HARM/safety_wrapper>

I like the name Prometheus, and yes thier is Greek Mythology behind it all. Though i think we should have a national contest like we did to name endeavor. I think it is only right to do something like that and to allow the country to have a say in something.

A

Again, may allready be taken, if NASA sticks with it. But Daedalus may be an alternative.

DO NO HARM/safety_wrapper>

Although "Constellation" sounded fine to me, I think it may have gone the way of the "spiral"; the word Griffin said that he never wanted to hear pass his lips again.
How about "Explorer" or "Pioneer" as a class-name for the CEV? Both have roots in the beginning in our space program, and the emphasis is on the action of, well, exploring or pioneering. I personally think "shuttle" was about the most boring name NASA could have come up with (and yes, I know the rational behind that one), although the names of the individual Orbiters were well chosen.

The entire project: Constellation

Crew Launch Vehicle: Nova

Heavy lift launch vehicle: Supernova

Each lunar mission should be named after a star: Sirius, Arcturus, Vega etc... Or perhaps freely named by their astronauts.

----------------------------------

My minds have many opinions

If we leave it up to Burt Rutan, it will be called "Moonship One"

Ummm... one small issue with "Nova" and "Super Nova" -- both describe phenomena essentially defined by spectacular explosions.

Regarding "son of Apollo:" while I'm fuzzy on the details (not having read Greek mythology in roughly 20 years), the Greek gods generally (and Apollo particularly) were promiscuous as alley cats.

There are a lot of sons of Apollo in the old stories. If we pick one over the others, we might want to look at the particulars of their stories.

There's a nice section on "Apollo's romantic life and children" down near the bottom of this Wikipedia entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo

Just tell the truth and let the chips fall...
