For my eleventy-eleventh post, I would like to ask the following question. If you could genetically engineer and combine any types of plants or animals on the planet what would you create? This post is inspired after reading about scientists creating fluorescent mice (by introducing a jellyfish gene) and an artist who grew human hair on a cactus (genetic engineering for no practical purpose other than art).

I think that I would try to create a fast growing, giant tree that you could live in, by combining genetic traits of bamboo (fastgrowing segmented), the banyan tree ( large branches, a forest unto itself) and perhaps the giant sequoia (for height and girth). Science Fiction?

How about Cats and Dogs that don't malt hair?

Definate market for that one.
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. We must never, ever be boring" - Chuck Palahniuk.

Apoptic Eukaryotes to "eat" cellular debris, plaque, and amyloid proteins. Help keep us young.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

Modification of a symbiotic strain of E coli such that it could concentrate naturally occuring radioactive isotopes (like carbon 14) in its' human host.

I consider this to be a prerequisite to achieving global domination.

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

You're becoming quite the mad scientist there vogon13! I see your proposed genetic experiments popping up in threads all over the boards!

OK then. Nice idea for the E Coli but how would you control it? And how would you protect yourself from it?

I'm alien. Kinda confers immunity to your earthly parasites.

Sadly, the earthians are immune to the native Vogsphere parasites too.

Hence, my task.

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

As long as no one decides to *cure* diabetes or I'm out of a job.
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. We must never, ever be boring" - Chuck Palahniuk.

I would give some thought to engineering a

Dape.

Dog/ape blend, so that the Dogs train-ability and friendship, and loyalty was combined with the Apes intelligence, and opposing thumb/upright posture.

You guys heard it here first, remember

I would make a cowhale (cow/whale) so then you can feed it with plancton and stop deforestation and it would provide much more meat than a regular cow putting an end to hunger in Africa.

All the above PLUS children who don't become overwhelmed by hormones and cannot have babies until they are thirty or have a medical procedure performed on them. I bet that would go a long way towards solving the worlds worst problems.

"Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. No mate. It is in my head, not someone elses. So I get to name it, not you.

Now please return to you post, and re-phrase it into the *lowest speaks to higher* part of speech.

A feline that could pet itself would simplify the daily routine at my house.

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

I am unabashedly bumping an old thread of mine, because I have just discovered my geneering idea was not original (i.e. to grow a house).

Just read The Houses of Iszm by Jack Vance, and indeed, he deals with exactly this concept - and it was written in 1964!
