By "the most," I mean which was produced by technology looking the worst today. Please don't include any of the following: Knight Rider (coming back shortly), Bionic Woman (already back), or Battlestar Galactica (back and gone).

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

There was an early 1970's series that lasted for a single season, called "The Starlost." It was written by Harlan Ellison, and was so badly done by Hollywood, that Ellison insisted that instead of his name, the pseudonym "Cordwainer Bird" be used.

But the premise was really good, and could be upgraded for today. The plot:

There is a gigantic colonizer ship with multiple separate bionomes, each containing different cultures. All were unaware that they were, in fact, onboard a ship. They were all fleeing a dead Earth.

Two (a young man and young woman) from the Quaker bionome get into the ship proper by accident, where they discover that the crew is dead, and the entire ship is on a course for an eventual collision with a star. They begin to look for a backup crew, hell any crew, to try to save everyone. Meanwhile, by fleeing, they have pissed off their elders, who have sent a friend of theirs in pursuit to capture or kill them.

All in all, it has real possibility. IMHO.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

1. Just how big?
2. Sounds like the ST episode "For the World is Hollow."
3. Forget the violence. Quakers are pacifists.

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

1. Immense.
2. They may have been Shakers or Amish. Something like that.
3. It does, if you multiply that concept by thousands of bionomes ignorant of their actual location and disposition.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

So each Biome doesn't know about the others either? Also, how "immense" are we talking? An O'Neil Colony is rather small to me. Something the size of the Death Star 2; that would be bigger. Hopefully, not as big as a Dyson sphere.

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

Yes, each is ignorant that they are in an artificial environment, have no idea they're in space or part of a ship, have no clue of all of the other bionomes. Complete pristine ignorance.

Picture (I am ballparking) a mother ship the size of Manhattan, with hundreds of spherical bionomes attached to it (I would surmise so that each can be detached and moved to it's destination).

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

True, the station that I dreamed up ten years ago was not intended to move once built, but it would have made your ship look like a pin prick. Babylons 1-5 would have easily fit inside the docking approach tube -- at the same time.

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

That's "Heighliner." Remember, once its engine were complete, the Death Star 2 was supposed to be capable of FTL.

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

You know, I spelled it as that at first, then edited it because it looked wrong.

Note to self: go with first impressions, do not second-guess yourself.

At any rate, the point is the mother vessel was immense by our reckoning. Remember, this series was produced in something like 1972.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

In reply to:

Next thing you know the 7-11 Slurpees will shrink in size.

Consumer Reports call those events "hidden price increases." You might pay X dollars one week for a box of cereal that is size Y. Next week, you will pay the same price, but the size will be 10% smaller.

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

"Men Into Space" (50's, and very accurate in its depictions)

"Science Fiction Theatre" (50's anthology)

"Space: Above and Beyond"

"Logan's Run" (remake of the movie in 2010 - this time following the book!)

and I'm still pissed off that they canceled "Firefly"

Sounds like Arthur C. Clarke & Gentry Lee sort of borrowed that idea for their RAMA series of books. The RAMA craft was supposed to have seveal Biomes that the inhabitants of weren't supposed to know about each others existance.

I'm still hoping that these books will make it to the big silver screen, or maybe better turned into a Sci-Fi series.
Bob DeWoody

How about Earth2 (would that make it 3) ? Or Planet of the Apes ? Or that one where the techie civilization retains control of the underground supersonic tube train transport and sets about redirecting the remains of humanity on the surface who were devasted by some disaster (nuclear war ?) and have fallen back to pre-industrial levels.

Actually I think you could re-make a fair series based on the original Lost in Space though perhaps ST:Voyager covered all those scenarios ....

EDIT : spellin, that would be a re-make not a re-male .... funny as the typo was

-----------------------------------------------------

Ask not what your Forum Software can do do on you,

Ask it to, please for the love of all that's Holy, STOP !

I would love to see a re-make of Lost in Space, this time without all the campiness and the talking vegetables. It should be true to the original concept based on Swiss Family Robinson. I don’t think LIS would infringe on ST:Voyager at all…Two different concepts, Janeway had a luxury cruise liner with all the comforts of home. LIS is an outing in the family station wagon roughing it in the wilderness.

I would also like to see a redo of The Time Tunnel. Maybe a darker version where our heroes, Tony and Doug, are actively trying to affect present day by changing the past. Consider this scenario; Humanity is on the verge of self destruction via global warming, nuclear war, overpopulation, (whatever catastrophe you care to choose), and the only way to save humanity is to go back in time and change things hoping for a better outcome.

We could see our heroes actually prevent the Titanic from sinking and find out the consequences of that, or perhaps they prevent Lincoln or JFK from being assassinated and learn the consequences from that, etc.,etc. until we get a present day that we can live with…Of course to keep the story going there should always be a catch to any historical change which actually makes matters worse, oh well, better luck in next weeks episode.

Most time travel stories are so careful to tippy toe around in fear of changing something...I want to see one where the intent is to change stuff and see what happens!

Sounds like "7 Days" to me. You know the one where they can send someone back 7 days to fix a disaster or really to prevent a disaster. I thought of the Time Tunnel when I first saw 7 Days. BTW I thought it was a good show too.
Bob DeWoody

Or that one where the techie civilization retains control of the underground supersonic tube train transport and sets about redirecting the remains of humanity on the surface who were devasted by some disaster (nuclear war ?) and have fallen back to pre-industrial levels.

That was Gene Roddenbury's Genesis II. The transport system was known as the "Subshuttle."

Btw, note some similarities between that pilot and the recent Andromeda:

The hero in both is named Dylan Hunt. Both are suspended by accident for a long time, and when decanted, find that their world is gone, destroyed. In both there are genetically superior engineered humans who are ruthless and want to take over everything; in both there is a remnant of the original civilization. And in both, Hunt takes it upon himself, with a small band of stalwarts, to try to repair the damage and recreate civilization.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

docm -

"Space: Above and Beyond"

"Logan's Run" (remake of the movie in 2010 - this time following the book!)

I agree with those, most definitely!

I'd also like to see a "Greatest American Hero" remake just for chuckles.

I wouldn't mind seeing an "Earth:2" but really rewritten. The idea is great, their plotline wasn't that good though.
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

Riverworld.

The SciFi channel did a pilot for it but then dropped it. It would have been a great series!

No amount of belief makes something a fact" - James Randi
