I get the launch updates from AGI, and it seems that lately I've been getting one e-mail a day from them. the worldwide launch rate seems to have been very high lately, with launches from Vandenberg, the Cape, Wallops, Japan, China, Kazakhstan, and so on.

Is any keeping track of the worldwide launch rate and making projections? I'd be interested.

Its not unusual for december. From what I remember from last year Russia launched 6 rockets in a month in December, I guess everybody is working towards certain goals before the end of the year. I doubt that it's a structural upturn in the launch market.

Kinda sad to reply to your own post I know, but I've been looking a little closer.

2005 saw 54 succesfull orbital attempts, and 3 failures (1 x Volna, 1 x Rockot & 1 x Molinya, all Russian)
2006 up to now has 60 succesful orbital attempts and 4 failures (1 x Falcon 1, 1 x Proton M, 1 x GSLV & 1 x Dnepr)

I believe there are 3 more launches scheduled for this year, all Russian

So it's an increase in Launch Rate, mainly caused by the return of the Delta 2 and Shuttle, both were grounded in 2005. Its the second consecutive year of growth, after a 13 year long decline.
