SOMEWHERE ON LUNA

When you reach out to touch...
Who is there to feel your body?
When you reach out to understand...
Who is there to heal your mind?
Who gives the answers when our minds question why?

I’ll be here...I’ll be there...
I’ll be with you in the great SOMEWHERE

When you look up in the sky at night...
Do you realize that each star is a sun?
With other planets and other moons...
These flickers of light, deep in the night...
They might just be playing our tunes.
These planets in the heavens continue to circle their sun,
Like Earth in our galaxy but light years ahead...
Their play may have already begun.

Yet as we stand on our Earth with a shuttle fleet on the ground,
We can soar back to our moon...feeling the power of manmade thrust as the planet echoes with sound.

Meanwhile, way up above, on the surface of Luna...our moon with a name...
Apollo, it seems, has left behind the undisturbed footprints of 12 American men who left the Earth for the moon and returned home as heroes...
Such was America’s reward for Apollo’s fame.

The Apollo program gives testament that living on the moon is possible...
So we must return again to stay.
Remember, some said that we were lunatics in the 1960’s for choosing the path of going to the moon...but did we achieve our goal too soon?

A new generation is now in desperate need of a new goal to fulfill their role.
For every small step we take in space and modern day life will forever be with our “one giant leap” in mind to guide us. Not divide us.

So as the world works together to complete a new Space Station powered by the sun...
In reality, a new space race has already begun...
Somewhere on Luna and onward to Mars...mankind must continue its journey with help from the stars!

Daniel Wingsand Reed
June 3, 2005

Welcome, the Inn Space Place
Welcome, the deep space race
To one and all, to large and small
Welcome, to the pioneers of a new space and time
Welcome, to this story of reality and rhyme

The reality began on a late sixties date
It was here that we sat; it is here that we wait
On a pad, by the sea
In a space, in a place called Cape Kennedy
Atop the Saturn, atop the Five
To the moon and back, the pioneers survived
Waiting and counting, hoping to see
The new Space Inn, a place to be

Welcome, the Inn Space Place
I hear the station is new, I hear the people are true
Hope to see it soon, you know, Tranquility Base, the moon!
Houston, can you copy, can you hear?
It's really lonely out in the blue
Well, it's not that blue when the sky turns black
It's only a three day ride (and a free ride back)

This story took place not so long ago
Can you remember the story, can you recall the show?
They called it Mercury, Gemini, and Project Apollo
They brought true a dream in a time of tomorrow
But where did they go? Apollo 18, 19, and 20
We achieved our goal so they took our money...

They took our money, but not our suits
They took our rover, but not our boots
We still have the rocks, we left behind the prints
We still have the money, we still have the mints
So Washington, please print some soon
Please, Mr. Politician, have you ever FELT the moon?

Welcome, the Inn Space Place
Welcome, the deep space race
The deep space race is about to begin
And we know in our hearts why we must win
From Mars or the Moon, from Jupiter or Pluto’s moon,Charon
Wherever we land, hand in hand, woman and man...

There's a place for us
There is a place...SOMEWHERE in space...

Daniel WIngsand Reed
June 7, 2005

And we will spend another 35 years wasting our time without the human experience. Our 10 remaining Apollo moonwalkers are getting old. Without vision there will be no human exploration...only Hollywood movies. Such a shame that President Kennedy's legacy is dying with each generation that believes the way you do. Kennedy challenged us in 1961 and we achieved our goal in 1969. Now it takes 9 years to waste money on a robotic concept. Let's unite our planet and give a woman a chance to walk on the moon!

Daniel Wingsand Reed
June 10, 2005

We once sent some men to Tranquility,
To teach Cold War foes some humility
But once we got there,
The budget went bare,
And we proceded to trash that ability.

Very nice work! I'm no poetry conneseur (sp?) but I like the message!

And Alokmohan, you're read the poem over the radio unit in your space suit, silly

Everyone else ... you're hilarious. But Daniel's original poem was quite good!

I'm quite serious about my poetry and an American Lunar project...........If I ever get into the public eye I hope to attract attention back to our space program and away from these "reality shows"....we must give our youth an attainable goal in space and define a way for the general public to get into space....WE'RE WASTING PRECIOUS TIME AND MONEY with the amount of corporate greed and the entertainment industry's lack of vision to inspire a return to Luna..

Here's another space poem that I sent out to the Whitehouse, TV and newspapers trying to plant a seed in the minds of those who have the power to sway public opinion:

DO LEADERS CHOOSE OR CHOOSE TO LEAD?-

We once became leaders and shot to the moon
With each shot in time came reason and rhyme fulfilling a devotion in 1969....
and then we boldly explored this place that was new, we landed in the mountains and drove inside its craters until 1972
Daring and challenging, evoking American Spirits to rise up together...
and leave behind a path of glory to the moon for future generations to follow forever

Yet sadly, as Space Shuttle Endeavour may circle the Earth...
For what it's worth
Our forever path of glory to the moon may soon also be made in China
Without an American lunar project and a plan of our own
Those 6 American moon bases that we left behind may no longer be called home

If we choose to lead again...
We must do so with added vigor, direction and a common sense plan
For our youth desperately need a sense of purpose
and a moon called Luna may yet turn out to be their promised land.

Daniel Wingsand Reed
2003

LUNA: A FACE FOR OUR MOON

The face on the moon spoke to me one day
Up in the sky.........far, far away
Come visit me my son, come fly away soon
Leap back now through time, won't you please soar again to the moon

This journey took place by humans you see
So the face in the moon means more now to me
Because we've seen her true face,
We've left behind our tracks with footprints on her plain
Isn't it time that we return to our Luna to reclaim our domain?

Daniel Wingsand Reed
August 1998
